English Village

This home, located in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, shares many features commonly found in a typical English Village garden. The goal was to create a private, yet colorful and beautiful outdoor great room for the clients to spend time in.

We were commissioned by the owners to create a private backyard and side area that echoed the themes of an English Village. The project began with the complete removal of all existing plant material that was not suited for the client’s vision. In order to adhere to the client’s wishes of privacy, a brick fountain wall was installed and the perimeter of the lot was fashioned with a hedge row of large arborvitaes. Many perennials commonly seen within the English Landscape such as phlox, grasses, and iris were incorporated in to the design. Many colors dot the landscape throughout the growing season such as white, purple, pink, blue, red, and orange. Peaceful garden ornaments such as fountains and benches were added to allow for the clients to sit and relax. Brick pavers were installed carrying the feel of the brick house into the garden. The clients were very pleased with their private, yet colorful outdoor living room.
