English Tudor

The "Tudors" were influenced by Italian Renaissance garden designs, which mirrored the alignment of the house, creating a harmony of line and proportion.

The garden featured here sits juxtaposed to one of the great "Tudor" mansions built in the early 1920's in Detroit. The clients provided a photo of the original reflecting pool garden, which was used to accurately return the land to its original splendor. The "knot garden," intricate patterns of lawn hedges, usually made of boxwood with flowers filling the spaces between are what commonly defined the "Tudors" and their historical contribution to landscape design.
